The conventions of a DVD cover i have found is there is always a logo showing its a DVD. The title is always big and bold so it stands out and there is always at least one main image on the cover. The list of songs always goes in chorological order according to numbers, but never in a random order.
The colour scheme for this cover consists of two main colours white, orange and black, this runs throughout the whole cover. The colours are quite dull however the orange text contrasts against the white background making the text stand out. On the front cover with the background being plain white makes the four images stand out making them the main focal point of the front cover showing it’s all about the band.
There are four main images on the front cover, one for each member of the band. They are all close ups of their faces’ and look like they have been contrasted to make their faces stand out more. The images don’t give much away about the band themselves but because they are such a famous band they don’t really need to have a really good creative image as people already know how good they are. They have also used the same images on the front cover as they have down the side of the DVD box, they might have done this to add a theme to the cover. The image on the back of the cover looks a bit like a family portrait, the fact that they have all got their hair cut in similar ways could be portraying that they are like brothers to each other, also they are all wearing suits which compared to the front cover which looks like them having fun, this one shows they can also be serious as a band furthermore the size of the image takes up just over half of the side, they have done this to highlight the band and the will be what catches the audiences attention.
The title ‘The Beatles Let it Be’ is printed on all three sides of the cover also showing a recurring theme, also the text is all in capitals making it stand out. The font used is like their ‘signature’ font which they have also used on other CD’s and DVD covers, they might have done this as some people could recognise that its them just by the font used. The text on the back cover is very small probably around a size 8, this could show that because the texts not very easy to read it’s not important as like earlier they are so well known most people would know their songs.
There are a lot of boxes used around text and images, this helps break it up separating the text from the images making it very easy on the eye. All of the images have a box or circle around them, I think these are highlighting the best parts of the cover, it’s the thing people will look at most and it also makes the cover look more interesting. There is a text box on the back of the cover to separate information about the DVD to the songs on the DVD, however by putting the box around the information shows you that’s what they want you to read first making it stand out. It’s almost as though they aren’t bothered about the songs on the disk as just by looking at the back they don’t stand out at all. The orange band all the way along the top adds colour to the cover but it’s also highlighting that it’s a ‘limited collection edition’ of the DVD showing for Beatles fans it is an important DVD.
