Beyonce – B-day
There is one main image of Beyonce on the DVD cover, it is a medium shot of Beyonce looking straight forward, looking at her audience whereas the image on the back she is looking up, in the direction of her songs directing the audience to look at what is on the DVD, for that reason the image on the front cover is a much stronger image.
Editing has been used on the images, the brightness and contrast has definitely been increased, this is done to make images stronger and better. For the mise-en-scene there are no props used, the setting is outdoors with the sky and trees behind her, she is wearing quite a lot of make-up. The only writing on the front is the artists name and the title of her DVD, these are in blue and white fitting in with the white top she is wearing. On the back of the DVD there is a bar code which is necessary for any product, all the writing is navy blue creating a colour scheme, the writing varies in size with the title being the biggest then the rest of the writing is the same size. Down the side of the DVD there is the name of the artist and the title following the blue and white colour scheme.
I think this is a very good DVD cover, although it is quite plain it has everything it needs and fits all the codes and conventions of a DVD cover.
The target audience for this DVD is mainly middle class girls from the ages of 17 to late 30’s this is because they are around the same age range as her so can relate to her lyrics and Beyonce herself. It can also relate to men because Beyonce is good looking so they could appeal to her that way.
