Arctic monkeys – Diary
September 8th – This is the day we started to construct our blog’s by adding the summer homework onto the constructed blog.
September 9th: today’s the day we plan and get our ideas on paper and start conducting our initial ideas and thinking what our ideas are for the narrative/concept based of the video and also the plan for our performance elements of the video. Although first of all we needed to decide on a song that already had a none existing music video so there was no copy-write issues to consider.
September 10th – 11th: today we finally came up with our song for the video we are producing; the song was chosen and agreed on by all members of the group the song we choose was a song sang by the arctic monkeys (pretty visitors) we chose this song because we thought it would suit our musical taste and as the song has a different tempo through out so there was different speeds to work with. Now finally we started to plan properly with known the song we were producing to. We started of by thinking of a narrative based for the video and came with the idea of a man having insomnia and having crazy flash backs.
September 14th – 15th: Monday 14th we decided to get our band together and plan and book to film for the next day, we booked out the drama hall and got organised for Tuesday we also planned on what the band should wear and also on which member of the band will perform what instrument. Tuesday 15th this day we filmed our first piece of performance based in the drama hall, everyone got there and were co-operative to what we asked and also we used the time conductively and got the footage done on all different types of angles.
September- 16th – 18th: These 3 days we put our footage on the drive and started to play around with the footage and started to edit the performance base.
September 21st – 25th: we then started to think beyond our planning and started to produce some audience research also needed to some more band research on the arctic monkeys we spent this week and the next 2 weeks researching and planning.
October 10th – this Saturday we headed down to Northumberland Park in Tynemouth to film our first piece of narrative based we used this area to film as the scenery was a good place for our video as its suppose to like weird and crazy. We thought this day went well and the time was used well.
October 12th – 21st: we started to put our performance elements and narrative elements together to produce a rough cut to show to others on the course, this was to help us see what we could better and see it the place and the environment was good enough after receiving our feedback we decided on doing a whole re shoot and filming in a different area. We also decided to shoot our performance elements in a more exciting and different way.
October 21st – 23rd: the rest of the week we went through the theory that had to be placed on the blogs.
October half term – we filmed at a different location on the Tuesday of the term holiday this was to do more narrative elements for the video. We did this filming at the quarry as it has the same type of scenery but looked more adventurous and interesting. This filming day went good and everyone did what we were after.
November 2nd – we got back after the holidays and started to edit the new footage and forget about the footage used for the rough cut.
November 3rd – We started to look at how we were going to sell our video for example the DVD cover had to be made for our target audience and to suit our video also had to produce a music advert. We did this for the next upcoming weeks with adding filming in-between.
November 13th – We did performance elements at the quarry and made it different and had our performance in the middle of the water then the next week we went back to film more narrative at the quarry and we are now editing and finishing of all bits and bobs for our deadline

rough cut dvd cover and inside the cover with feedback
The feedback on our DVD cover was mixed in places. Some of our audience liked how it was plain and simple it was on the back and some thought the front was to plain as well. However, this was the style we were going for to try and successfully promote the music video. Many of the criticisms were that there was not enough going on in the front of the cover.
We then got told that the card board background for the title of ‘Forest of Morals’ has to be took as a original picture because of classed as ‘cheating’ by taking something from the internet.
The audience really liked the inside of the cover due to the picture we used in the background. The image is very random but gets the point across that it is a different band as it’s characterised as indie. The picture is of Clive McPhee’s feet in the mud whilst we were filming the performance base scene in the Quarry in the morning.
The background of Clive’s feet made the writing hard to see because there is a lot going on in the background image. We were advised to take another image to make the writing more clear or put a cast shadow on. The cast shadow would work but didn’t change a great deal in it. So we changed the font and the boldness of the writing so it is clearer for the final cut. The audience then criticised the size of the bands title ‘Forest of Morals’. The letters weren’t big enough to stand out so we had to cut down the white background from the letters to make the letters standout more and catch the eye of the target audience. We then decided to put a ‘Forest of Morals’ tour on the bottom right to make it more exciting and realistic.
The audience then criticised the images of the band on the bottom left of the inside of the DVD cover. This was because of the poor visibility of the images because all of the images were edited too much and made it difficult to see the band. Also we were missing one of the band members and the audience realised this.
We had the same problem with the background image because it was severely edited and made it very difficult to read the writing, so we cut down the saturation and the contrast so the writing is more visible and more understandable.
The audience didn’t like the font of the ‘Pretty Visitors’ writing because it was to original so changed it to make it stand out some more and link in with the genre of music.
rough cut advert and feedback
The audience thought that the advert was particularly good because of the style we went for it. Hannah Burke who created the advert and put across a collage theme for the advert worked extremely well and looked like an original advert seen in a music magazine. The criticisms were that the font for some of the writing didn’t suit the advert itself also the stars from the quotes on the bottom were too small and didn’t look like there was a space between each quote. Also didn’t like how there was a space in the bottom left of the advert making it look un-finished in a way. Also the images in the collage was not focused at times and not enough genuine images for example to many images of the making of the video. One last criticism was that the website for the official website for ‘Forest of Morals’ was www.F-O-M.com, the criticism was that the initials is never in upper capitals its always in the lower case.
